How to remove instrumentals from audio files with Audacity

June 13, 2010

I’ve been addicted to playing with music lately.  Cutting songs up, putting extra drum loops on songs via a small unknown software program called HammerHead Rhythm Station 1.0. It’s fairly old, and I’ve had it for a while. It’s a small 808 simulator for your computer. Basically producing techno and jungle loops for you electro heads out there. It’s free to download and use, and the files export to .wav files, so it’s simple to input them into other programs.

But I digress.

As I said, I’ve been addicted to cutting up audio files lately. Cutting up songs, etc. In this, I found a way to basically lower the instrumental on music tracks. When you lower the instrumental, you can only hear the vocals, so you only get the lyrics and not the song. But it works and it’s easy to do, so I thought I’d share it.

Audacity is an open source, free to download and use, software program.
